Michael Miller Science & Math Tutoring

More than 20 years of High School and Middle School
STEM teaching experience
I have a masters degree from MIT in nuclear physics, and am a graduate of Amherst College with a double major in Physics and English.

With over 20 years of teaching experience, I've taught math from multiplication to calculus, and trigonometry to geometry. I have also taught science in the forms of physics, engineering, chemistry, and more.
I believe every student can learn science and math. It's often a matter of finding what misconceptions are blocking the learning and moving past them.

My Approach
In math and science, difficulty often arises student has missed or misunderstood a concept that was presented in class. Because these subjects build on each other it can feel as if you can’t understand anything after that point.
Finding those missing pieces and giving a conceptual framework can turn what seemed impossible into something understandable and straightforward. I have found that working one on one with a student--and taking a calm approach--helps to identify what those missing pieces and misconceptions are.

I was once told that there are not easy’ "problems’ or "hard" problems, there are just problems you know how to solve, and ones that you don’t know how to solve yet. I can help young people move beyond that "yet".
Mission statement
Science and math are for everyone, but sometimes different learners need a different approach. My goal is
to make STEM accessible for all learners so they can
soar academically.
Experience counts
With a BA in Physics and English from Amherst College, I went on to receive a Masters in Nuclear Physics from MIT. For several years, I was Germany working with an international team of scientists at Mainz University, which gave me a unique perspective on participating in STEM and sharpened my skills across language barriers.

When I returned to the US, I realized that my real calling was teaching a next generation of science learners. In my years as a teacher, I've worked at Nativity Preparatory School, the former Uphams Corner Charter School, and Boston College High School. A resident of Marblehead, I can work with locally or online.
